As a military brat, I find it hard to call one place home.
Every 3 years, our family packed up and moved as my father, a Marine Corps officer, received orders to a new assignment and new destination -- which for us, meant a new home. By 18 years old, I had lived in California, Illinois, Hawaii, Japan, Belgium, and Kansas. Soon after, I moved to Washington, D.C. to attend American University. I continued to travel during my time in college, studying abroad in Costa Rica for 6 months. I immersed myself in Costa Rican lifestyle -- living with a local family, taking classes in Spanish at the nearby university, and exploring the country and culture. After graduation, I moved to Maryland to cover nighttime crime for The Frederick News-Post, reporting on breaking news events like fatal car crashes and high school shootings. After a year, I switched over to the business and biotech beat. Today, I live in the Arlington, Va. area, working as a reporter with media nonprofit Tax Analysts, where I cover New England state tax policy, debate, and issues. |
